The other mainstream newspaper produce newspapers every day with an incite on celebrities and main focus points such as TV, movies, gossip etc wheres Oh Comely focuses on 'reduced stress and being mindful'. Oh comely aims are different to others by releasing less than others gives time for Oh to write stories in depth compared to the other newspapers with less of a meaning behind the articles. Compared to heat, which influences women to gossip and 'be skinny'.
Oh Comely's aims compared to Men's Health differ to due to the different genders. Oh takes a calm approach reaching out to a female audience which is natural and accepting to anything whereas...

- The story behind Iceberg (from the website) - Five years ago, three friends and colleagues were working for one of the biggest publishing companies. But we believed there was a better way to create and publish magazines – where the readers were as important as the advertisers, where the paper quality and design were valued and where the words and pictures weren’t always trying to sell stuff, didn’t portray perfection, didn’t tell people what to do and made them feel better, not worse. So we gave up our jobs, went into our savings and borrowed the rest to set up our own publishing company – Iceberg Press – and buy The Simple Things, followed by Oh Comely two years later. Then, in 2018, we launched Pics & Ink to sell other publishers’ independent, beautiful and useful magazines too. Now we’ve re imagined Oh Comely into Oh, a mindful magazine with a fresh perspective. It’s been hard work but the smell of every fresh-printed issue in our hands is a note to self to savoir the good times.
- Lisa Sykes is the Editorial for the magazines - The editorial product will be at the heart of Iceberg's success. Lisa was editing national newsstand magazines by her mid-twenties before working on news and features at The Sunday Times. More recently she spent 10 years at Country Living Magazine, where she was responsible for a string of award-winning campaigns such as Fair Trade for British Farmers, Enterprising Rural Women and Made in Britain.
- David Parker - he is a highly successful publisher with a track record of growing brands and working every avenue and margin in the business. He published three of the largest magazine brands in the UK: Country Living, Prima and House Beautiful, alongside AllAboutYou.com, a website with over one million unique users every month.
Oh Comely front cover analysis
Representation; The front cover represents the female as being natural looking by having a background of nature which is a natural setting, this comprehends the non makeup look that the model is going for. The front cover doesn't particularly stand out with bland colors being used to show that this magazine isn't like other female magazines like Heat which have a lot of stories pact onto the front page and it being colorful, this magazine aims to have a more mature audience, which is clearly obvious threw the representation from the front page which is something important to get right as the front page represents the tone and audience type that the magazine is aimed at.
Hall's reception theory; Due to the audience being aimed at females who are feminists and believe in female rights and having equality with males, the use of 'Power and poise' at the bottom of the page (the strap line), stereotypically these words would not be used to describe a female character, however because of the target audience in this case, this is what the audience stands for and is something that they understand.
Barthes' semiotics; The model's pose in this image, is unnatural however strikes the idea of her being calm and in a position of relaxation and a little bit of power. This position is not a natural way to sit or stand, which shows that the model is very confident which is a message perhaps trying to be portray to the target audience to feel confident in your own skin and as a female.
